Who is Abby?

Before I knew how to write, I used to dictate stories to my mom and demand that she read to me two hours a day. I was seven when I wrote (and illustrated!) my first book: Why the Virginia Opossum Plays Dead. I was hooked.

As I grew older, I discovered that I liked to write things that I could see: plays and screenplays. I studied Theater and Performance and Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, taking as many writing classes as I could while devouring knowledge about these mediums. I graduated summa cum laude and won the Theater and Performance Studies Award and Olga and Paul Menn Foundation Prize for my play Olga's Strike. Olga's Strike was also a Semifinalist in the 2022 Jewish Plays Project. I frequently worked with Fire Escape Films and mentored as Script Coordinator from 2019-2021.

I'm working on several feature films. My recent work tells the stories of difficult women with a comic edge. I was selected as a Yonder Window Ascending Playwright for 2022. I was the Assistant Director and Associate Dramaturg of Court Theatre's The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice. I currently work as an assistant in the new live action department of LAIKA, the studio best known for Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings. I have also worked in the MP Lit department at Verve, as a script reader for Slated, and as an assistant for Young Jean Lee.

I'm currently obsessed with Succession and Ted Lasso. Other favorite shows include Breaking Bad, Bojack Horseman, and Avatar the Last Airbender (which all have the same tone, right?) I grew up on Lord on the Rings and Star Wars and am a devoted fan of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere.

Hit me up if you want to chat story!
